Today is Bandcamp Friday - a day that has become a crucial lifeline for independent musicians. For 24 hours, the platform waives its revenue share, meaning 100% of sales go directly to the artists and labels.

In an era where streaming pays in fractions of a penny, days like today are what make independent music sustainable. They are the difference-maker that allows artists to fund recording sessions, pay collaborators fairly, and manufacture physical media.

I bring this up now because two weeks ago, I released Three Suites on Endectomorph Music. This is an ambitious project: a double-disc piano trio album produced by Tyshawn Sorey, featuring Santiago Leibson and Eivind Opsvik.

If you have been enjoying the music on streaming, or if you’ve been meaning to pick up the physical copy, today is the single best day to buy it. Your purchase today goes directly back into the ecosystem that made this record possible.

For those new to the record: I began writing this music in late 2019. In March 2020, the trio played our first gig just days before the world shut down.

In the years that followed, this music became a document of that "suspended time," the silent nocturnal atmosphere of Brooklyn, and the loss of my mentor, Ralph Peterson. My goal was to create a specific musical world with its own rules, not just make another piano trio record.

It took until the Fall of 2023 to finally record the album. By that point, I had also just begun a master's degree in music composition. Balancing full-time work with grad school and trying to put out an album is a lot - ergo the delayed release!

I also want to say a huge thank you to the curators in the streaming world who have already added tracks from Three Suites to their rotations. As the owner of three cats, it made me particularly happy to see the placement on "Jazz for Pets" - apparently my music has been a big hit with animals!

Thanks for supporting independent music.

Best,

Colin
